All-New Yahoo! Mail arrives for Safari 3

There’s a very good chance that many of you have already noticed, but just in case you haven’t, I’m here with some delightful news for my fellow Mac users. Yahoo! Mail, a key starting point for millions of people around the world, is now fully accessible from Safari 3.0 on the Mac!

Our guys have been working feverishly to make sure that everything works as intended. Some have even made the occasional trip down the road to “The Mother-ship” (as many a Mac enthusiast has called it), but none were nice enough to bring me any gear from their company store.

I guess I’ll just have to make a trip myself. Anyway … back to the subject at hand.

The rollout is already underway, and we hope to have the updates out to most of you within the next couple weeks. Once it’s completed, folks running the most recent update of Tiger (OS 10.4.11), as well as those using any version of Leopard (OS 10.5.x), will have a version of Safari that plays nice with the All-New Yahoo! Mail. Or maybe it’s a version of Safari that the All-New Mail plays nice with. Either way, they are pals now, and that’s what really matters.

Of course Mac users could already use Safari to access Mail Classic, and Firefox to access both, but with this roll-out, the latest version of the world’s most popular Webmail service will be available to an even broader audience of Mac users.

There are some other enhancements that aren’t Mac specific, so be on the lookout. I’ll be back with more news on that soon.

we purchased recently Apple desktop hoping for less frustration after problems with Vista.
Only- all the years we were using Windows and Apple is another hurdle to overcome. WHy these companies cannot agree on one “language” and
simplify things so those who are not into computers could spend time doing what they know and could be much more helpful to the community?
Rre-learning reminds me of kiddie games of Jap Nintendo this and that,
always something a bit different, not able to use it on the “old” machine,
our children were without TV! I’d read them and unfortunately they did never live in vacuum, thus got always their share of ridicule from other children. I got that part. They were, however, ridiculed by their teachers and it was difficult to keep my attitude when they needed always to keep their teachers in good standing…
to your post: iphone – did not hear too many good things about it, and cannot get more technical.
The entire Europe uses a program called SKYPE. Haven’t tried it, but apparently it’s not difficult?
Does anyone know what this involves and how it works?

Excellent news! Glad to hear Yahoo is making this happen, as I’ve been wanting this feature for quite some time. I just hope that if Microsoft buys Yahoo this type of support continues. Microsoft has a bad record with cross platform support (Messenger, IE, etc.)

Will the updates allow access and full use of Yahoo! mail from Safari on IBM compatible PCs? I tried Safari and rejected it largely because it didn’t play nice with any version of Yahoo! mail especially the (then) beta.

Seriously, this is very welcome news. I’ve been using the “Um, are you sure you want to use this in your unsupported browser?” version on Safari 3 and the quirks were driving me a little batty. Before I read this post I noticed that I could select addresses from the drop-down menu when using the autofill feature. Whew!

Now if you’d just let me use IMAP so I could have Yahoo Mail on my computer, I’d be in heaven.

Before anyone recommends it; I hate POP email. Worthless.

Also, please get rid of POP3 or provide IMAP option, at least for paid customers… Really, this bad joke must end.

Well done guys! Keep up the GREAT work. Love the new build.

Some of my favorite new features that I have found so far:
1) Download All for when there are multiple attachments is a great addition.
2) Searching by clicking on the subject or on the sender is a really nice feature.
3) Arrows for moving to next/previous emails in thread rocks.
4) Clicking on the subject button on new emails brings a smile to my face almost every time. Someone at YMail has a great sense of humor.

And don’t pay any attention to the whingers on these comments. There is a large group of us (too quiet some times) that really loves what you guys are doing.

And to all the whingers (and you know who you are) go over to Hotmail and piss in their sandbox. Leave this one alone! I’d like to see any of you build something with 10% the traffic as YMail and 2% of its functionality.

Ymail team – thanks for all the hard work.

Four weeks ago, if we checked the box saying, “Keep me signed in” it did.

Now, every day when I turn on my computer, I have to put in my information and sign in to Yahoo again. It’s bothersome. Can you tell someone at Yahoo, we liked it before, when that little checkbox (to keep us signed in,) actually worked !

I also experienced huge delays in sending emails on Feb 12th…almost 7 hours at times. Only found out because I always send myself a copy of all my emails.
Now the link for checking mail in the beta version doesn’t work, so I had to switch back o the original.
You would think Yahoo would send out a blurb indicating and admitting a problem exists.
I’m considering switching to another provider for my email.
Frustrated!

I get this error when I login and I am supposed to send a Error1 card to the support team, but when I proceed to do just that, I am required to type in my password again, and again it prompts me for password if I try to send the Error1 card. Unfortunately there is also no email address of the support team listed anywhere, so I hope I’m not making a big mistake here requesting for your help. Please advise. Thanks!

The version of Safari that runs on the iPhone is different from any of the other versions that are available. Fortunately iPhone users have a built in Mail application that is really good, and extremely easy to navigate on the iPhone.

Well, like always, whenever you announce a new feature we just want to complain about what is missing :-) So, I just want to add my concern over support for Firefox 3.

And it would be really nice if Yahoo Mail supported RTL (for Hebrew & Arabic) when composing. It should be easy to implement since you only need to add a dir=rtl tag to the html of the outgoing mail (I’m a web developer, but of course only your developers really know how hard it is).

Cheers

The iPhone’s Mail application is indeed handy, for everything but Yahoo Mail. The iPhone-YahooMail proprietary authentication protocol has a huge security hole which allows for a replay attack and could lead users to having their account compromised. It’s preferable to check your email with Safari on the iPhone.
Why they didn’t implement IMAP & SSL instead of developing another authentication protocol is beyond me…

It would be EASY and GREAT to have MORE input sections when you want to add a mail contact. Please, please, please put in more lines for telephone numbers and addresses, and company name. There is enough empty space on the input screen for this. Think about it for a moment. Wouldn’t a person want to do it at the first time, like add name, address, phone 1, phone 2, phone 3, address. I add, but then have to go back edit to add common items. Please correct. Thanks.

A few of you have asked about support for Firefox 3 Beta, and I’m happy to report that the updated version plays nice with that too. If you tried and it’s not working, that just means the server farm your account is on hasn’t been updated yet. As I mentioned in the post, this should only take a couple weeks to get out to everyone.

No luck here…! And for some reasons it confronts me with the same error messages like when I try to log on using Firefox3…!?! First those two error messages…

(stuff like: “Yahoo! Mail experienced a login error: Login error: name:TypeError message:Null value”)

…and then it attempts to load new mail messages, but takes forever — until it finally recommends I should switch to Classic Mail…!?! :(((

(Mail appears to be taking longer to load than usual.
This could be a temporary glitch. Try refreshing your page. Or for this session only, click here to see if Mail Classic loads faster.”)

If I don’t do that I cannot even sign off, clicking the link just won’t work…!

Oh, and every now and then I get the “your browser is not supported” message when I try to log on…not always though…!? It’s still extremely messed up…!!!

As has been remarked: now if Yahoo will finally allowing its PAYING customers to have IMAP mail — which, incredibly, has been available for some time to the non-paying users! — we can finally say Yahoo Mail is catching up to Google.

So, I tried to check out the “all new email” link in the upper right hand corner and now I can’t even log-in at all to get my email. Instead, I get the Microsoft error report right after I login and it then shuts my entire browser down. I can’t even get anywhere else in Yahoo Mail at all to even REVERT BACK to Classic. Needless to say I am pretty unhappy. I wish Yahoo would just make it easier to revert back if a feature isn’t functioning properly…

Please, for the love of god, change my settings back to the old “Classic style” so that I can at least get to my email. Beta blows and I regret ever clicking that “new email” link…

When I use safi with the new version of Yahoo Mail, there is som stribes when I’m scrolling down a messege. I guess that’s one of the things to be corected. The other thing is a big issue. It is well known that with Yahoo Mail it’s possible to get mail from other mail account. But it would be so nice if Yahoo Mail AUTOMATICLY could check these accounts. The it would be possible to check all mail accounts from Yahoo Go on the cell phone. Thank you for a great Yahoo Mail.

Sorry, but not for Safari 3.04 for Windows. It still gives me a web page that says I’m using an unsupported browser. It allows me to click through, however, and with a small problem allows me to use all of the beta features without problem.

The problem is not consistent, but causes the mail client to be unable to access my account.

Have just started using a Mac and am happy to see that I can access my Yahoo mail using Safari – but there are still a number of “bugs”.

– Big scroll bar appears after attaching a file blocking the displayed name of the attached file
– Can’t arrow down the suggested auto-fill list for email addresses to choose one lower on the list
– Have to switch to full message view to see what is attached. Otherwise all you see is a paperclip.

Hello!

FYI…The autocomplete feature in the To: field when entering an e-mail address is no longer available for Yahoo Mail on Macs. It worked before. Now we have to look up e-mail addresses that we once typed in. If that feature could be added again, it would be a great time saver. Thanks for considering!

I was told by Yahoo technical support that the lack of ‘auto-fill’ was a Safari issue. Be fully aware, it is a YAHOO issue.

Tell me, Ryan, how are millions of people using Safari across the world unable to enjoy auto-fill on yahoo mail? I’ve been a yahoo user for years, but this is enough of a reason to make me switch to Google. You guys have been late to the game in most categories, and speaking constructively, you need to get organized. Step one is fixing this auto-complete issue within the next 2-4 weeks. I’m certain that I’m not the only Yahoo user you risk losing…
